A Question of Experience Intro
I had just returned home from a visit with my Granddaughter Sophia and, of course, her parents Paul and Natalie in Chicago. Sophia was three and three quarters years old and asks lots of Whys? I really appreciated that ability to ask why and I hope that she never loses that ability and desire to ask questions. Asking why was also part of my self appreciation and was on my mind when I wrote “A Question of Experience”.
This poem attempts to illustrate the seriousness of a lot of my life’s frustrations but , at the same time, indicates the levity in the face of the gravity of life. I attempt to do this by using the rhythms of Dr. Seuss’s poetry and by indicating that the “why” questions are part of everyone’s lives. It seems as if there is no answer to “Why Ne” or “Why Not Me”, but that the questions are still worth asking and the thoughts that brought them up are still worth thinking.
